Job description

Matthew Dunn Racing is seeking an experienced horse trainer/educator to manage thoroughbred racehorses within his racing stables.

A full-time position working 38 hours a week located at Murwillumbah NSW

The salary will be above the award, in the range of $73150k

$74k per annum, depending upon skill level.

Essential Skills:

It is desirable to have qualifications or at least a minimum of 2 years full time professional experience in the role overseas or in Australia.

In addition, the following will be required:

Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing

Proven ability to train and educate young horses

Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction and provide information

Ability to work with and to lead a team independently

Knowledge of secure operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment.

Sound knowledge of health and safely obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses.

Duties

The duties of the role include:

teaching animals to obey verbal and non-verbal commands and addressing behavioural problems

training animals to accept riders

washing and brushing

transporting food, filling water troughs and feeding animals according to their individual needs

maintaining animal health records, treating minor injuries and reporting serious conditions to Veterinarians

exercising and playing with animals, answering visitor questions, and transferring animals between enclosures

Qualification

Certificate III in Horse Care is recommended or on the job experience of at least two years.
