Make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people impacted by family and domestic violence The Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence (PGCNV) is a leading specialist service supporting women and children to live free from family and domestic violence. We deliver trauma-informed refuge, outreach, counselling and coordinated response services, working alongside key partners. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Child Advocate to join our Refuge team. About the role In this rewarding role, you will champion the safety, wellbeing and development of children and young people residing in refuge. You will deliver child-centred, trauma-informed support and ensure children’s voices, rights and needs are embedded in all aspects of service delivery. Working closely with families, colleagues and external services, you will support recovery, strengthen protective factors, and contribute to long-term positive outcomes for children. Key responsibilities
- Provide trauma-informed case management to children and young people in refuge
- Conduct child-focused assessments and develop age-appropriate safety plans
- Deliver therapeutic and developmental programs to support recovery from trauma
- Advocate for children’s needs across health, education and protection systems
- Support parents to strengthen protective parenting and attachment
- Facilitate engaging play, learning, and community-based activities
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure integrated support
- Maintain high-quality documentation and uphold child safeguarding and compliance standards About you You are a skilled and compassionate practitioner who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people. You will bring:
- A relevant qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or similar
- Experience working with children and families in trauma and/or FDV contexts
- Strong knowledge of child development, trauma, and safeguarding practices
- Ability to manage risk and respond effectively in complex, high-pressure situations
- Excellent communication, engagement and documentation skills
- A collaborative approach with the ability to work both autonomously and in a team Desirable:
- Knowledge of FDV frameworks (e.g. CRARMF, Code of Practice)
- Experience delivering therapeutic or group supports to children and young people
- Understanding of WA child protection systems Requirements: Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance (within 3 months), current Driver’s Licence, First Aid & CPR certification. What we offer
