We are looking for a workshop manager who will oversees the daily operations of a workshop, which will include technical fields like auto repair. Your responsibilities include managing staff, planning and prioritizing jobs, ensuring quality control, maintaining equipment and inventory, and communicating with customers. The role requires a combination of technical expertise and strong management skills. Key responsibilities
- The specific duties of a workshop manager are diverse and often include a hands-on component along with managerial tasks.
- Operations Management: Pl and optimize workflow, scheduling tasks, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of technicians or tradespeople, including managing schedules, conducting performance reviews, and identifying training needs.
- Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control measures, conducting inspections, and ensuring all work meets high standards and relevant regulations.
- Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S;) policies, conducting safety training sessions, and managing workplace incidents and safety breaches.
- Inventory and Finance Management: Overseeing inventory levels, ordering supplies and parts, managing the workshop budget, and identifying cost-saving measures.
- Customer and Stakeholder Relations: Serving as a primary point of contact for clients, managing their expectations, providing quotes/estimates, and addressing complaints to ensure customer satisfaction. Necessary skills
- Management skills: The ability to lead and organize a team effectively.
- Technical knowledge: A strong understanding of the work being done in the workshop, often gained through experience as a technician.
- Organizational skills: Proficiency in managing time, prioritizing tasks, and keeping the workshop organized.
- Communication skills: The ability to communicate clearly with staff and customers.
- Problem-solving: The capacity to handle the challenges of keeping a workshop running efficiently and dealing with unexpected issues. What we're looking for
- Proven experience in workshop management or senior technician role
- A minimum of 5-8 years of workshop management or senior technician experience is required
- Robust automotive technical knowledge is essential for this role
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Trade qualification in automotive or mechanical is essential
- A commitment to quality, safety, and customer service
