Business Development Manager - Mid Sized Civil Contractor …, City of Gold Coast
Description
Be the Person Who Opens the Door Before the Market Moves Some companies wait for tenders to be released. Others are already in the room, helping shape projects before they ever reach the market. Our client sits firmly in the second category. With a strong track record across civil construction, infrastructure, and resource-driven projects, the next phase of growth in Queensland is about deepening relationships, expanding market presence, and securing the right opportunities early. Business Development Manager, you'll be at the centre of that. This Is About Positioning, Not Pitching This isn't a transactional sales role. It's about understanding where the market is heading before it becomes visible, building trusted relationships across government, resources, and private clients, and positioning the business early so when projects move, you're already part of the conversation. You won't be measured on activity – you'll be measured on access, influence, and outcomes. Why This Role Matters Our client is continuing to expand its footprint in Queensland. Success will come from securing a solid forward pipeline, building long‑term client relationships, and entering the right projects at the right time. Your role is to connect those elements, turning insight and relationships into real work. What You'll Be Doing (Day To Day)
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients across Queensland, including state and local government agencies, resource and energy sector clients, tier 1/2 contractors, delivery partners, consultants and design firms.
- Identify and qualify upcoming opportunities early, before formal procurement.
- Develop and execute client engagement plans for priority sectors.
- Lead internal go/no‑go discussions with senior leadership.
- Work closely with estimating and bid teams to shape winning strategies.
- Provide market intelligence and insight to inform business decisions.
- Maintain and manage a live pipeline of opportunities.
- Represent the business at industry events, briefings, and forums.
- Build the pathway to win the right work. What Makes This Role Different
- Part of a growth story, not maintaining an established position.
- Able to shape how the business is seen in the market.
- Working across diverse sectors: civil infrastructure, resources, and construction.
- Backed by a business with real delivery capability.
- The opportunity to build something meaningful, not just manage relationships. About You
- You understand that in construction and infrastructure, relationships and timing drive success.
- Have experience in business development, client engagement, or project delivery within civil/infrastructure.
- Bring an existing network across Queensland (government, resources, contractors, or consultants).
- Understand how projects are delivered, and where risks and opportunities sit.
- Are confident engaging at senior levels with clients and partners.
- Think strategically about pipeline and positioning, not just individual tenders.
- Are proactive, self‑driven, and comfortable working with autonomy.
- You might come from a civil contractor (BD, PM, or estimator transitioning into BD), a resources or infrastructure delivery background, or a consultancy or client‑side role with strong stakeholder exposure. What You'll Be Influencing
- The strength and quality of the Queensland pipeline.
- Which sectors and clients the business grows into.
- How the business is positioned in the market.
- The success of major project pursuits. Why Our Client They are known for their practical delivery capability, long‑term relationships, and diversified operations across construction, civil, and resources. You'll be backed by a business that can actually deliver what it commits to. You'll have the autonomy to build relationships your way. You'll play a key role in shaping growth in a new and expanding market. You'll work closely with experienced leaders who understand both strategy and delivery. What Success Looks Like
- Being engaged with clients before projects are formally announced.
- Building trusted, long‑term relationships across key sectors.
- Developing a robust, visible pipeline of opportunities.
- Helping the business secure the right work, not just more work.
- Becoming a recognised and respected presence in the Queensland market. If This Sounds Like You Take ownership of a key growth role. Build meaningful relationships across the industry. Play a direct part in expanding our presence in Queensland. #J-18808-Ljbffr Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3ripfl
