Peter Evans and Associates We are seeking an experienced and motivated Finance and Trust Accounts Officer to join our growing law firm on a long-term basis. About the Role As our Finance and Trust Accounts Officer, you will play a key role in overseeing the firm’s financial operations and ensuring compliance with all legal accounting and trust accounting obligations. You will work closely with the Principal/Company owner to support the ongoing success and growth of the practice. This position is ideally suited to someone with previous legal industry experience who can confidently manage trust accounting requirements, maintain compliance standards, and contribute positively to the firm’s operations, including the financial management of farming and commercial entities. Key Responsibilities
- Management of the firm’s day-to-day financial operations
- Oversight and administration of legal trust accounts
- Ensuring compliance with Law Society trust accounting regulations and requirements
- Bank reconciliations, month-end processing, and financial reporting
- Accounts payable and receivable management
- Preparation and lodgement of BAS statements (desirable, not essential)
- Financial Management of Farming and Commercial Entities
- Liaising with the Principal/Company owner, external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions
- Maintaining accurate financial records within Xero and LEAP
- Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiencies Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in a Finance and Trust Accounts
- Strong working knowledge of legal trust accounting and Law Society compliance requirements
- Experience in the financial management of farming and commercial entities
- Experience preparing and lodging BAS statements — desirable, however not essential
- CA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent accounting qualification preferred — desirable, however not essential
- Experience using Xero and LEAP
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to take on challenges
