Description
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026. Alkimos Primary School opened in February 2016 and caters for around 700 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school continues to develop a highly engaging and dynamic learning environment, where building relationships between students and community is key. The school hosts a Specialised Learning Program (SLP) for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), supporting the individual needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who are at risk of disengagement, underachievement and/or have significant difficulties with adaptive behaviours. It is an intervention pathway to mainstream schooling.

The Role

Program Coordinator – Specialised Learning Program (SLP) Autism. This role is dedicated to supporting the holistic development of autistic students with ASD, enabling them to achieve their full potential. The SLP provides individualised, neurodiversity‐affirming support designed to engage students in their learning, enhance academic achievement, and foster the development of essential adaptive skills.

Responsibilities

* Lead the SLP team to deliver tailored plans focused on organisational skills, social cognition, positive peer relationships and emotional self‐regulation.
* Supervise SLP homerooms led by skilled teachers and education assistants who employ evidence‐based approaches.
* Implement neurodiversity‐affirming strategies aligned with the National Guideline for supporting the learning, participation and wellbeing of autistic children and their families (Autism CRC, 2022).
* Provide professional instructional leadership within the SLP and across the school.
* Build staff capacity to deliver inclusive, evidence‐based, supportive education for autistic students.
* Lead strategic planning and operational management as part of the senior leadership team, monitoring the effectiveness of the program using SLP and whole‐school data systems.
* Drive whole‐school approaches to inclusivity, engagement and positive student outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience

* Strong experience, knowledge and high‐level skills in applying evidence‐based methodologies and interventions for individual education plans.
* Qualified knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for students.
* Highly developed leadership skills in a diverse range of educational settings.
* High‐level communication, interpersonal and public relation skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
* Conceptual and analytical skills, together with the proven ability to provide innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
