Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) / Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) Location: Western Australia Duration: Long-Term Project Seeking: UK-Based Candidates We are currently exploring the market for experienced Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS) / Radiation Safety Officers (RSO) who may be open to a long-term project opportunity in Australia. At this stage we are awaiting further details clarifying start dates/end dates. This is an opportunity to register interest while we assess availability and suitability for the project. The RPS/RSO function is aligned in scope, and we are seeking individuals with strong radiation safety backgrounds, ideally combined with gas testing capability. Candidates with transferable or partial experience are encouraged to apply, as additional training may be provided where required. Role Scope & Experience Requirements:
- Experience as an appointed Radiation Safety Officer under a recognised regulatory framework (Western Australia experience advantageous), ideally within industrial or oil & gas environments.
- Solid background managing NORM and/or sealed/unsealed radioactive sources, including development of radiation management plans, safe work procedures, and risk assessments.
- Practical experience conducting radiation monitoring, contamination surveys, instrument use, and field assessments (onshore and/or offshore).
- Preparation of technical reports and dose-related documentation for regulators and clients.
- Leadership experience across operational sites, including toolbox talks, permit reviews, and liaison with HSE and operations teams.
- Good understanding of regulatory requirements, licensing processes, and engagement with regulatory authorities.
- Recognised Radiation Safety Officer training (additional radiation, NORM-specific, or OHS qualifications advantageous). Gas Testing & Associated Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for gas testing and atmospheric monitoring as part of site safety operations.
- Competence interpreting gas detection readings (LEL, O₂, H₂S, CO, and other toxics).
- Strong understanding of Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems and associated control measures.
- Familiarity with confined space entry, ventilation, and isolation processes, particularly where radiation and gas hazards may overlap.
- Ability to coordinate monitoring activities and recommend escalation measures where required. Additional Experience Considered:

- H2S and Benzene gas testing
- UHP (Ultra-High Pressure) jetting
- Forklift operation
- Working at heights
- Confined space training
