Description
The School of Alternative Learning Settings (SALS) is a specialised program that supports students with complex and challenging behaviour through intensive, individualized learning and social skill development. SALS sites accommodate up to 10 students and are located across Western Australia. Role Teachers are responsible for delivering a student‑centred, ecological framework of support that includes:
- Implementing and maintaining individualized learning plans.
- Developing and delivering a social and emotional curriculum.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of four teachers, student support officers, a youth transition officer, and a school psychologist.
- Providing de‑escalation support and positive handling strategies.
- Assisting with transitions, case management, and crisis intervention.
- Transporting students in lease‑or‑hire vehicles when required and participating in school‑wide skilled learning. Qualifications and Experience
- Current or candidate teacher registration in Western Australia.
- Experience in student engagement, transitions, or case management.
- Background in social and emotional learning program development.
- Capacity to undertake professional learning in de‑escalation, Positive Handling, the Circle of Courage model, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention in Schools, and trauma‑informed practice.
- Valid WA driver’s licence (required for student transport). Additional Requirements
- Must hold a valid WA Working with Children Check and Screening Clearance Number.
- May need to travel to regional locations; willing to work in Kalgoorlie‑Boulder or other regional sites. Benefits
- Additional annual remuneration of up to $10,210.
