Principal Civil Designer – WA Design Team We are seeking a Principal Civil Designer with 10+ years’ experience to join our Western Australian design team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide high level technical support and direction in relation to design services for engineering projects including civil, structural, resources, geotechnical and other specialisations of engineering. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to step into a Discipline Lead position, responsible for the Western Australian design team and will contribute to projects including local government and private infrastructure sectors. Responsibilities
- Design multi-disciplinary complex civil projects, ensuring design drawings for engineering project work comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and company policies and practices.
- Provide high level technical support for all design drawings for engineering project work.
- Direct the preparation of preliminary and detailed designs for engineering projects in line with parameters set out in project scope of works.
- Prepare construction documentation and specifications for design works.
- Prepare schedules and allocate resources to enable design drawings for engineering projects to be completed on time and within budget.
- Ensure compliance with specifications, design standards and Australian Codes to enhance quality design.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence through mentoring and training less experienced designers.
- Support and approve associated technical work directly related to the discipline.
- Play an active role in the business groups through regular meetings, workshops, training and business planning. Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in civil design within a professional services or consultancy environment servicing private and public sector clients in Western Australia.
- Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma of Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification) or significant experience as a senior civil designer.
- Valid full driver’s licence.
- Experience designing multi-disciplinary projects using 12D and AutoCAD.
- Exposure to MicroStation and CADconform.
- Experience supporting and approving associated technical work directly related to the discipline and in project management capacities.
- A thorough understanding of civil design principles pertaining to land development, storm water, flood modelling, civil infrastructure or roads (preferred disciplines).
- Familiarity with local and national design and drawing standards.
- Strong client management capabilities.
- People leadership experience, preferred but not mandatory.
- Willingness to coach junior designers with advice on solutions and develop fit‑for‑purpose solutions to engineering problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to participate in business development activities as needed. Benefits
