- Prestige Auto Works Group Melbourne (High End Performance and Service European Workshop Location: Melbourne Company: Prestige Auto Works Group Prestige Auto Works is one of Melbourne's leading European performance and service workshops. We work on everything from daily driven BMWs and Audis to supercars and high-end performance builds. We are looking for a Workshop Controller who can run the shop floor like a leader. This role is not for someone who wants to sit behind a desk. You must understand technicians, diagnostics, workflow, performance upgrades and business priorities. If you can't handle pressure, prioritise jobs, or manage mechanics, this job isn't for you. What You'll Be Responsible For Workshop Floor Control You will control the daily movement and productivity of the workshop floor. Responsibilities include
- Managing the daily workshop planner
- Prioritising jobs based on cash flow, urgency and customer expectations
- Monitoring mechanic productivity and time management
- Adjusting job priorities when technicians fall behind
- Managing staff availability and coverage when mechanics are absent
- Providing technical support and decision making when technicians hit roadblocks
- Coordinating vehicle movements around the workshop (if and when a car needs to come on and off the hoist)
- Ensuring the right technician handles the right job
- Directing mechanics when urgent work interrupts another job
- Performing high-level vehicle diagnostics when required (with the help of our lead diagnostic techs)
- Quality control checks when technicians are tied up Staff & Workshop Administration
• Overseeing workshop staff performance and productivity
- Addressing staff attitude or behavioural issues
- Supporting the sales service team by checking quotes for pricing accuracy
- Ensuring workshop operations run efficiently throughout the day Parts & Service Coordination
• Confirming parts issues with mechanics and relaying accurate information to sales staff
- Checking part supersessions or redesigns with suppliers
- Determining whether additional parts required should be charged to the customer
- Managing arrival timing of performance parts and scheduling vehicles accordingly
- Advising service advisors/salespeople when additional parts are required
- Supporting upsell opportunities with performance components Performance & Tuning Operations Prestige Auto Works performs a large amount of ECU tuning and performance upgrades, so experience in this area is highly valued. Responsibilities include
- Advising technicians when ECUs must be removed
- Performing ECU pinout / boot-mode tuning
- we will train you to do this.
- Road testing tuned vehicles
- Researching ECU tunability and platform support
- Advising on performance upgrade compatibility
- Quality controlling tuned vehicles to ensure correct performance output
- Handling tuning related customer complaints and determining when revisions are required Cash Flow & Workshop Revenue Management You will work alongside the Workshop Manager to ensure the workshop is productive and profitable. Responsibilities include
- Managing daily and weekly workshop revenue targets
- Following up on delayed jobs or stalled work. (waiting on parts etc)
- Following up outstanding invoices with the sales team in conjunction with the Workshop Manager.
- Identifying opportunities for potential work.
- Ensuring deposits are taken when appropriate What We Are Looking For
• Certificate III Automotive qualification required for this position
- Robust automotive technical background
- Minimum 2-3 years of workshop experience required
- Experience running or controlling a busy workshop floor
- Ability to manage multiple mechanics and apprentices
- Strong diagnostic and problem solving ability
- Understanding of European vehicles and performance upgrades
- Ability to prioritise jobs based on profitability, urgency and workflow
