Aged Care Volunteer Visitor (Melville)

Job Overview Lifeline WA (Supported by Volunteer Melville!) – Attadale WA Volunteer for Lifeline WA’s Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) to reduce loneliness in the local community by visiting a resident in an aged care facility or their own home. Each volunteer visitor is carefully paired with an older aged person who has reached out to ACVVS for social support. The match considers each person’s interests, temperaments, personalities, cultural background and location. Volunteer Responsibilities
- Act as a companion, confidant, and friend to the older aged person living in a facility or at home on a government‑funded Home Care package.
- Visit for 1 hour once a week, for at least 6 months.
- Increase the older aged person’s involvement in social activities within the community.
- Spend time together enjoying shared interests.
- Show acceptance and non‑judgment.
- May take the older aged person on short outings, e.g., for coffee, a drive, a meal, or a river visit. Recipient Background
- Three in four recipients have a cognitive impairment such as dementia, which can affect memory, thinking, and communication.
- Individuals may become confused, forgetful, or disoriented; patience, flexibility, and understanding are essential.
