About This Role Fixed term, full‑time role until 31 December 2026, based in Geelong. Engage with and support the local Aboriginal Community. Salary range: $97,955 – $111,142 plus superannuation. Position is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. About Us Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connect clients to programs, services and community. Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) works to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system. Through its commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, the Koori Inclusion Action Plan, and partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, CJS has developed this unique Aboriginal Practice Adviser role. The Role This role is about standing with the community and ensuring Aboriginal people are supported properly when dealing with the justice system. It helps CCS staff understand culture and trauma, communicate better, and work in a way that recognises the harm systems have caused, while keeping the people connected to family, community and culture. The role supports the community to be heard, treated fairly, and supported to get back on track. As the Aboriginal Professional Practice Advisor, you will also undertake regular monitoring of regional performance and contribute to the formation of policy and procedures that strengthen culturally appropriate case practice. You will frequently travel to all office locations within the Barwon South West Region and work collaboratively with the RAJAC Executive Officers. Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, its culture, and the issues impacting it.
- Experience with culturally safe and supportive case management practices for Aboriginal clients.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community, local service providers, and key stakeholders.
- Experience in dealing with the complex needs of Aboriginal people in complex environments is highly desired. No tertiary qualification is required. Advantages
