Fixed term, full time role until 31 December 2026, based in Geelong. Engaged with and supports the local Aboriginal community. Salary range: $97,955
- $111,142 plus superannuation. This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. About us Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connecting clients to programs, services and community. CCS provides management of clients on court orders, clients with serious sex offences on post sentence supervision and prisoners on parole. Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) works to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system and aims to reduce reoffending by implementing unique strategies and initiatives. CJS has developed a unique Aboriginal Practice Adviser role, building on its commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, and the Koori Inclusion Action Plan. About the role This role stands with the Aboriginal community and ensures their support throughout the justice system. It helps CCS staff understand culture and trauma, communicate better with the Aboriginal community, and operate in a way that recognises the harm caused by the system, while keeping people connected to family, community, and culture. The role supports the community to be heard, treated fairly, and supported to get back on track in a respectful and strong way. As the Aboriginal Skilled Practice Adviser, you will also undertake regular monitoring of regional performance and contribute to the formation of policy and procedures that strengthen culturally appropriate case practice. The position is based at the Geelong Justice Service Centre, but the successful candidate will travel frequently to all office locations within the Barwon South West Region as needed and will work collaboratively with the RAJAC Executive Officers. Key responsibilities and qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
- Demonstrated knowledge of culturally safe and supportive case management practices for Aboriginal clients, using these skills to influence case management practice to reduce risk and maximise individual outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community, local service providers, and key stakeholders. No relevant tertiary qualification is required, but experience in dealing with the complex needs of Aboriginal people and community in complex environments is highly desired. Benefits
