Cleaning Operative Location: Brighton Salary: £10,530 per annum (£13.50 per hour) Vacancy Type: Permanent/Part Time Closing date: 12pm Friday 22 May 2026 Reporting to Deputy Head of Facilities Services (Cleaning) Main purpose of the role To maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all assigned areas, helping to provide a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. General Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with keeping designated areas clean, including hallways, floors, toilets, showers and classrooms.
- Use cleaning equipment and materials to carry out duties safely, including diluting and using cleaning chemicals as instructed under COSHH regulations.
- Operate cleaning machinery according to instructions and Health & Safety guidelines, keeping it clean and safe and reporting faults to the Deputy Head of Facilities Services (Cleaning).
- Carry out emergency cleaning as required, e.g., due to accidents or sickness.
- Report defects such as faulty plugs or fuses to your supervisor.
- Take appropriate Health & Safety precautions, ensuring the personal safety of staff, pupils and visitors.
- Respond to any other reasonable management request. Person Specification The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:
- Physical fitness, including the ability to bend, stretch, lean, reach and carry heavy, awkward items.
- Positive verbal and written communication skills.
- Punctual, reliable and trustworthy.
- Good time management skills.
- The ability to work both alone and in a team.
- A polite, friendly and helpful attitude.
- The ability to speak confidently and courteously to parents, pupils and staff at all levels of seniority.
- Awareness of health and safety procedures.
- The ability to read and understand written instructions.
- Some of your work may be physically demanding and involve lifting; you may also need to work at heights using ladders.
- In-house cleaning training will be provided to NVQ level 2 standards. Hours of Work Monday to Friday, 4.00pm to 7.00pm (15 hours per week). Holidays 23 days, plus bank holidays; increasing to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service. Benefits
