Location: Brighton Salary: £10,530 per annum (≈ £13.50 per hour) Vacancy Type: Permanent / Part Time Closing date: 12pm Friday 22 May 2026 Reporting to: Deputy Head of Facilities Services (Cleaning) Main purpose of the role: To maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all assigned areas, helping to provide a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. General Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with keeping designated areas clean, including hallways, floors, toilets, showers, and classrooms.
- Use cleaning equipment and materials to carry out duties safely, including diluting and using cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Operate cleaning machinery in accordance with instructions and within Health and Safety guidelines, keeping such machinery clean and safe, and reporting faults.
- Carry out emergency cleaning as required, for example following accidents or sickness.
- Report defects such as faulty plugs or fuses to the supervisor.
- Take appropriate Health and Safety precautions, ensuring the personal safety of all staff, pupils and visitors.
- Respond to any other reasonable management request. Person Specification
- Physical fitness, ability to bend, stretch, lean, reach and carry heavy, awkward items.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Punctual, reliable and trustworthy.
- Good time‑management skills.
- Ability to work both alone and in a team.
- Polite, friendly and helpful attitude.
- Confidence and courtesy in speaking to parents, pupils and staff at all levels.
- Awareness of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions.
- Work may be physically demanding, involving lifting and possibly working at heights using ladders.
- In‑house cleaning training will be provided to NVQ Level 2 standards. Hours of Work Monday to Friday, 4:00pm to 7:00pm (15 hours per week). Holidays 23 days, plus bank holidays, increasing to 28 days plus bank holidays after 2 years of service. Advantages
