Offer Description Position is based in the College of Science in the School of Agriculture Food & Wine, located at the Waite Campus. Full‑time, fixed‑term initially offered for three (3) years, with possible continuation for a further three (3) years subject to satisfactory performance reviews and achievement of key performance indicators. Salary range: Level B – $114,917 to $135,932 per annum (plus 17% superannuation). Role Overview The School is seeking an outstanding applicant with expertise in plant omics for major crops in Australia. Outputs will focus on multi‑omics studies, particularly spatiotemporal transcriptomics, to improve abiotic stress tolerance and quality of wheat, barley, and grapevine. Key Responsibilities (implicit)
- Conduct research in plant omics including single‑cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, genomics and bioinformatics.
- Design experiments, execute research, analyse data, interpret results and prepare scientific reports.
- Publish findings in high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals and prepare manuscripts for publication.
- Lead research projects, build collaborative partnerships and engage with domestic and international industry stakeholders.
- Supervise Higher Degree by Research students and contribute to teaching and learning activities. Qualifications and Experience
- PhD in agriculture, horticulture, plant biology or a related discipline, with relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated research excellence in plant biology and omics research.
- Proven expertise in experimental design, research execution, data analysis, interpretation and scientific writing within plant omics and multi‑omics research.
- Strong publication record in high‑quality international peer‑reviewed journals, with experience preparing manuscripts for publication.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead research projects, build collaborative partnerships, and effectively engage and negotiate with industry stakeholders.
- Proven supervision, organisational and interpersonal skills, including successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research students and a commitment to organisational values of integrity, respect, excellence, equity, diversity and inclusion. Desired Characteristics
- Ability to think innovatively and critically, translating research outcomes into real‑world applications.
- Knowledge of and established connections within the Australian grains and/or horticultural industry.
