Location: College of Science, School of Agriculture Food & Wine, Waite Campus. Full‑time, fixed term (3 years initially, renewable for a further 3 years). Salary: Level B, $114,917–$135,932 per annum plus 17% superannuation.

Position Summary

The role seeks an expert in plant omics for major Australian crops. The successful candidate will conduct research on multi‑omics, focusing on spatiotemporal transcriptomics to improve abiotic stress tolerance and quality of wheat, barley, and grapevine. The position is initially for 6 years, subject to satisfactory mid‑term review and achievement of KPIs.

Responsibilities Design, execute and lead plant omics research projects. Analyse, interpret and report multi‑omics data. Prepare manuscripts for high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals. Supervise Higher Degree by Research students. Build and maintain collaborations with domestic and international industry stakeholders. Translate research outcomes into practical applications.

Experience and Qualifications PhD in agriculture, horticulture, plant biology or related discipline. Demonstrated research excellence in plant omics and related areas. Proven expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific report writing. Robust publication record in international peer‑reviewed journals; ability to prepare manuscripts. Experience initiating and leading research projects and team-oriented partnerships. Supervision, organisational and interpersonal skills; successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research students. Desired Characteristics Creative and critical thinking; capacity to translate research into real‑world applications. Knowledge of and established connections within the Australian grains and/or horticultural industry.
