**Position Summary** The Library Technician/ Learning Support Officer at Southern Cross Institute (SCI) plays a crucial role in supporting the Institute’s library operations and delivering information services. This position is integral to the academic and student support team and reports directly to the Library & Learning Support Manager. The Library & Learning Support Officer is responsible for providing effective assistance to students and staff, ensuring access to resources, and contributing to the development and implementation of learning support programs. This role aims to enhance the student experience by offering comprehensive support in library services and academic learning.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist students and staff with inquiries related to library services and learning support.
- Process library loans, manage returns, and enforce security procedures.
- Catalogue and classify resources in accordance with established standards.
- Maintain facilities for the storage, display, and preservation of library resources.
- Plan and participate in library promotional and engagement activities.
- Provide timely and accurate information to students and staff about library services and resources.
- Locate, retrieve, and supply information resources through inter-library loans or acquisition processes.
- Address and resolve comments, suggestions, and complaints from students and staff promptly and effectively.
- Oversee the maintenance of library resources, equipment, and systems.
- Support the development and delivery of learning support and academic writing tutorials.
- Assist in recommending library resources and supporting the acquisition process.
- Foster positive relationships with textbook and resource suppliers.
- Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of mentoring programs.
- Aid in the development and execution of evidence-based strategies to support diverse learning needs.
- Explore and propose innovative digital solutions for student learning support.
- Analyze, interpret and curate knowledge, research and data to support excellence and innovation in student learning support.
**Selection Criteria**
- Completion of relevant qualifications in library science with eligibility for membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
- Knowledge of the ESOS Framework and the National Code 2018, or willingness to acquire this knowledge.
- At least one (1) years of experience in an higher education academic library environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a range of scholarly information resources and the ability to access these resources regardless of format; and demonstrated knowledge of the processes required to obtain scholarly information resources (e.g. acquisitions) and to provide access to these resources (e.g. indexing, cataloguing).
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a diverse range of people.
- Experience in coordinating work group activities and working collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Capacity to work independently and manage responsibilities with mínimal supervision.
- Demonstrated skills in managing and leading learning support initiatives and programs.
- Expertise in evidence-based approaches to learning support and academic skills development.
