Employment Details Employment Type: Permanent Full Time Position Classification: Social Worker Lvl 1/2 Remuneration: 76364 – full time equivalent base salary range (+12% super + 17.5% leave loading and salary packaging) Hours per week: 38 Requisition ID: REQ Applications close: Midnight on 25 May 2026 Role Overview This position supports children, young people and their families accessing care across the new wards at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The social worker is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for delivering a comprehensive social work service. Responsibilities
- Provide psychosocial assessment, counselling and advocacy to children, young people and families.
- Conduct individual, family and group work.
- Develop and implement programs to support families.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and the broader Social Work Department. Qualifications & Experience
- AASW membership preferred, with post graduate experience in social work practice with families and children and/or in a health context.
- Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention, assessment and counselling.
- Commitment to evidence‑based practice.
- Understanding of the issues facing children and their families when confronted with illness and disability.
- Knowledge of relevant community support services.
- Capacity to build professional and therapeutic relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Capacity to share after hours and weekend on‑call duties.
- Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems. Benefits
