Junior Portrait Photographer (Entry Level) (Perth)

We’re looking for a junior portrait photographer to join our team on a casual, ad hoc basis. This is a hands on role suited to someone at an early stage of their photography journey who’s looking to build practical, real world experience. You’ll be involved in photographing portrait content, as well as assisting with shoot preparation and pre-production. While you’ll be shooting independently, you’ll also have the opportunity to work alongside more experienced photographers and receive feedback to help develop your skills over time. This role is best suited to someone who is actively learning and looking to improve. Our ideal candidate is a student currently studying a related media course who wants to apply what they’re learning in a practical setting. You’ll be working with models of varying experience levels, so a genuine interest in working with people and developing your ability to direct subjects is important. To be successful, you’ll need to show a portfolio that demonstrates creative intent and a willingness to learn and improve. Retouching is not required for this role. However, a basic understanding of editing and post-production workflows is beneficial. Gear is not required for this position. This is a flexible, non-exclusive role. You’re welcome to continue your own work or study alongside it, and we’re happy to schedule around existing commitments where possible. Please note this is a non-sponsored visa position, and applications from outside of Perth will not be considered. Requirements:
- A valuable understanding of the exposure triangle
- Demonstrated interest in photography, with some practical experience or relevant study
- Portfolio that shows creative intent and experience in a genre involving working with people (e.g. portraits, fashion, or similar)
- Ability to plan and schedule availability at least three weeks in advance
- Willingness to learn, take feedback, and improve over time
- Has their own reliable transport Desirable (but not required):
- Currently studying photography, media, or a related field
- Any experience working with models (even at a basic level)
- Interest in portrait, beauty, or fashion photography
- Active interest in fashion
- Basic understanding of light and how to modify it
