About the Role As our project pipeline continues to grow, Pitch Black Group is seeking a Lead SMP Designer with strong plant layout experience to lead SMP design delivery across a portfolio of mining and minerals projects. This role is all about leading layout direction early, ensuring designs are practical, constructible and fit‑for‑purpose from the outset, then carrying that intent through detailed design and project delivery. You'll play a hands‑on leadership role, combining technical design expertise with coordination, mentoring, and quality oversight. What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead SMP plant layout design from concept and study phases through to detailed design and delivery
- Shape layout direction early to ensure constructability, safety and operability
- Produce and review high‑quality SMP layouts and design deliverables
- Coordinate closely with engineers, designers, contractors and project teams
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior designers
- Manage drafting setups, standards and project‑specific requirements
- Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers
- Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and client specifications
- Track progress, schedules and man‑hours for assigned design scopes About You
- Proven experience as a Lead or Senior SMP Designer
- Strong background in plant layout for minerals processing facilities
- Experienced across concept, study and detailed design phases
- Confident leading layout development and influencing design outcomes
- Strong understanding of constructability and multidisciplinary interfaces
- Skilled in supervising and mentoring designers
