About the Role We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join the team on site working on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining fit-for-purpose ground control systems, with a strong focus on quality assurance and quality control. It supports operational teams through timely, field-driven advice, manages geotechnical risks associated with mining operations, and ensures compliance with site standards and statutory requirements while enabling production objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain ground control standards for development and stoping.
- Conduct routine underground and open pit inspections to assess ground conditions, support performance, and compliance.
- Lead QA/QC processes for ground support installation, including inspection, testing, and verification
- Assess and sign off on backfill exposure conditions, ensuring backfill meets strength and curing requirements
- Monitor and interpret geotechnical data, including mapping, CMS, and QA/QC test results
- Identify and manage geotechnical risks associated with open voids, stopes, and backfill exposure
- Develop and enforce TARPs and site instructions for ground control hazards
- Contribute to stope design, sequencing, and reconciliation to minimise dilution and optimise extraction
- Review and sign off on geotechnical inputs on mine designs, schedules, mining instructions, stope notes and backfill notes etc.
- Prepare technical reports, risk assessments, and clear operational guidance.
- Ensure compliance with the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and statutory requirements
- Provide mentoring and day-to-day guidance to junior engineers or graduates (if applicable)
- Investigate geotechnical incidents (e.g. overbreak, support failure, fill exposure issues) and implement corrective actions About You
- Degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years hard rock underground mining experience including some open pit experience.
- Experience in ground control, stability analysis, and mine design
- Valid WA C-class manual driver's license
- Robust understanding of underground rock mechanics and ground behaviour
- Ability to use of mine design software, preferably Deswik.
- Ability to use geotechnical software such as Rocscience suites.
- Competency in use of MS Office Suite To be eligible for consideration all applicants must hold appropriate work rights to work in Australia and be willing to undertake the necessary pre-employment checks which will include a medical and a National Police Check.
