Description
Job Description Opportunity to make an impact.
Join AECOM in delivering mission‑critical water and infrastructure projects that underpin Australia’s defence capability. Our work involves designing and integrating resilient utilities and environmental systems that support the operations of Defence bases and facilities.
With a strong emphasis on security, these opportunities require Australian citizenship and eligibility for security clearances, ensuring that you play a vital part in safeguarding our nation.
Key role responsibilities include:
Supporting the planning and design of civil engineering infrastructure including roads&transport, stormwater, services and utilities, and earthworks for infrastructure projects.
Delivering work packages including completing detailed design, engineering calculations and interpretation of site and project data.
Contributing to stormwater design (pit and pipe layouts, hydraulic checks, minor drainage design), bulk earthworks support (grading plans, levels coordination, basic cut/fill inputs).
Developing basic water and wastewater infrastructure (reticulation layouts, tie‑ins, design checks).
Proposing practical approaches to new problems, escalating early where needed and applying learnings from previous tasks.
Identifying discrepancies in calculations, drawings, models or inputs and raising them promptly for resolution.
Supporting client‑related activities including the preparation of tenders and proposals.
Building collaborative working relationships with internal teams across engineering and related disciplines, and geographies, supporting quality design and delivery outcomes for clients.
Qualifications What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role, you will have experience as a Civil Engineer working on civil, site and infrastructure design and be able to obtain defence clearance, alongside:
Ideally, 5–10 years’ post‑graduate experience in civil/site infrastructure design.
Exposure to applying Austroads, Australian Standards and local council/authority requirements.
Technical skills and broad background in general civil design including roads, water, wastewater, drainage across a range of markets.
Excellent communication skills and high quality technical and non‑technical report writing.
Process‑driven and detail‑oriented, with a clear focus on quality, checking and well‑structured deliverables.
A collaborative mindset, comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and with the ability to ask the right questions early.
An ability to successfully obtain Australian Defence clearance will be necessary for this role, therefore Australian citizenship is a key requirement noted above.
Additional Information Why you’ll love working with us
Flexible work arrangements available, aligned with the market and client‑facing role requirements.
Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year.
Reservists leave and representation leave.
Flex public holidays– swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better.
We back your growth with structured development, mentorship, flexible work, and support toward chartership– plus clear pathways into technical leadership, design management, and project leadership. If you’re ready to do work that matters – supporting bases, shipyards, and critical assets across Australia – join us and help secure Australia’s water resilience with AECOM.
As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we believe in each person’s potential, and we’ll help you reach yours.
