Project Manager – Structural Steel & Precast Concrete Installation The Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of structural steel and precast concrete installation projects across commercial, industrial, civil, and infrastructure sectors. This role requires strong leadership, technical construction knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Project Manager will oversee all operational aspects of projects including planning, procurement, craneage coordination, rigging operations, subcontractor management, client liaison, commercial performance, and site execution. Key Responsibilities Project Delivery & Coordination Manage structural steel and precast installation projects from award through to completion. Develop detailed project programs, methodologies, and staging plans. Coordinate labour, cranes, transport, rigging equipment, subcontractors, and site resources. Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, engineering drawings, and contractual obligations. Monitor project progress and proactively address delays, risks, and operational challenges. Attend and lead project meetings with clients, builders, engineers, and subcontractors. Manage multiple concurrent projects and site teams effectively. Ensure smooth sequencing between transport, craneage, rigging, erection, and installation activities. Oversee site establishment and logistics planning. Safety & Compliance Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all projects. Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, site safety requirements, SWMS, lift studies, and company procedures. Review and approve Protected Work Method Statements (SWMS), lift plans, rigging studies, and installation methodologies. Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits. Investigate incidents, near misses, and implement corrective actions. Ensure all lifting operations are planned and executed safely and efficiently. Maintain compliance with relevant Australian Standards and industry regulations. Commercial Management Manage project budgets, cost tracking, and financial performance. Monitor productivity and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies. Prepare progress claims, variations, forecasts, and cost reports. Review subcontractor and supplier invoices against completed works. Negotiate subcontractor scopes and procurement packages where required. Ensure projects achieve targeted profit margins and commercial outcomes. Identify and manage contractual risks and opportunities. Client & Stakeholder Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, builders, consultants, and suppliers. Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders. Provide regular project updates and reporting to senior management and clients. Manage client expectations and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner. Coordinate closely with site supervisors, crane crews, riggers, transport teams, and engineering consultants. Technical & Operational Responsibilities Review engineering drawings, lift studies, and construction documentation. Coordinate crane selections, lift methodologies, and installation sequencing. Ensure adequate planning for heavy lifting, transport access, and site constraints. Liaise with engineers regarding temporary works, lifting points, bracing, and installation tolerances. Assist with development of innovative erection methodologies and construction solutions. Oversee defect management, QA inspections, and project closeout processes. Leadership Responsibilities Lead and mentor supervisors, riggers, crane crews, and project staff. Foster a high-performance team environment focused on safety, quality, and productivity. Allocate resources effectively across multiple projects. Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of operational personnel. Drive accountability and professionalism across project teams. Required Skills & Experience Proven experience in structural steel and/or precast concrete installation projects. Strong understanding of crane operations, rigging, lifting activities, and heavy construction methodologies. Demonstrated project management experience within construction, steel erection, precast, crane hire, or related industries. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and structural details. Strong commercial acumen and budgeting capability. Excellent organisational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple high-pressure projects simultaneously. Strong leadership and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project scheduling software, and construction management systems. High-level problem-solving and decision-making ability. Preferred Qualifications Trade background in rigging, steel erection, crane operations, or construction. Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. White Card.
