About the role

We are looking for a passionate Assistant Café Manager to join our Port Melbourne café.

Working closely with the Café Manager, you will support day-to-day operations, lead the team from the front, and ensure every customer enjoys a high-quality café experience. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a team environment and enjoys leading by example.

Duties Support daily café operations including opening/closing, service flow, and team coordination Lead the floor during service – driving energy, efficiency, and customer experience Manage on-shift labour, stock control, and ordering Train, mentor, and develop team members Maintain solid coffee quality and oversee the coffee station Ensure food safety, hygiene, and operational standards are met Assist with recruitment and building a positive team culture

Skill & experience Previous experience as a Supervisor, Head Barista, or Assistant Manager Proven ability to lead teams of 5–20 staff in a quick-paced environment Strong, hands-on leadership style with a positive attitude Passion for customer service and team development Coffee experience preferred (but not essential) Comfortable with admin tasks such as ordering, stocktakes, and labour management Availability across weekdays and weekends (with 1 weekend day off)
