About You
Key Information
Two-year fixed full-time optometrist appointment. Nine-day fortnight with a rostered day off. Working hours of 8:30 am to 5:45 pm, Monday to Saturday. Based in Carlton and other nominated ACO metropolitan clinics. Salary is inclusive of superannuation, with salary packaging benefits also available. What We Offer

Our two-year residency program begins in our 27-room Carlton clinic, where you’ll build confidence through a broad and rewarding clinical experience. You’ll receive regular peer feedback and support from experienced optometrists, many of whom have completed the graduate program themselves, you’ll also gain exposure to smaller clinic settings across ACO’s metropolitan network. You’ll work with advanced ophthalmic technology and continue growing your clinical capability through our specialty services, including Paediatrics, Specialist Contact Lenses, Glaucoma, and Dry Eye. Residency Pathways
Primary Care Residency
– A broad pathway that supports your development across general optometry practice. Paediatric Residency
– Focus areas include general practice, children’s eye care, binocular vision, myopia, and disability. Ocular Diseases Residency
– Focus areas include general practice, glaucoma, retina, and diabetes. Outreach Residency
– Combines general practice with service delivery in communities that need accessible eye care. Cornea and Contact Lens Residency
– Focuses anterior ocular surface disease advanced corneal conditions including corneal grafts and keratoconus. Fitting of soft silicone hydrogel lenses as well as custom rigid gas permeable (RGP), mini-scleral, prosthetic, and orthokeratology (Ortho-k) lenses. With dedicated training time and access to expert clinical mentors, ACO is committed to helping you grow and supporting the next generation of public health optometrists. Key Accountabilities
Provide clinical services of a high quality and apply a high standard of clinical skill and knowledge, whilst working to established clinic protocols. Provide care that is responsive, inclusive, and respectful of cultural and individual differences, responsive to patient needs, whilst involving patients in decision making. Act always in a professional and ethical way in relationships with patients, colleagues, and other health care and service professionals. Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional conduct in all interactions with patients, colleagues, and external healthcare providers. Work independently while also collaborating with optometrists and support staff, proactively contributing to clinic operations. Desired Skills and Experience

Passion for working in a not-for-profit or public health organisation will be highly regarded. A demonstrated commitment to solid clinical knowledge, empathy, and clear communication. Enthusiasm for delivering high-quality clinical care. A service-focused approach, with initiative and responsiveness in supporting patients. A genuine motivation to serve the community, particularly people who are disadvantaged. Registered to practise optometry in Australia. Willingness and ability to travel to ACO metropolitan and outreach clinics across Victoria. You will need to provide your own handheld ophthalmic equipment. How to Apply
