Android Engineer | Mobile Framework (Port Macquarie)

About the Role Mobile Framework is the platform team behind ABC's mobile products. We own the shared libraries, infrastructure and engineering standards that power Android development across the ABC. Contribute to the development, maintenance and support of the ABC's Android and Android TV applications in line with ABC strategy and Product & Content Technology's objectives. Responsibilities Under direction of the Engineering Manager & Technical Leads and in collaboration with colleagues, provide advanced technical development skills to the ABC's Digital Product and contribute to the development of components and features in an efficient manner across the ABC's mobile applications. Design, build and maintain shared libraries and infrastructure consumed by every ABC mobile product team, with a focus on stability, ergonomic APIs and explicit extension points. Contribute to the analysis, design and development of reusable functionality for a broad range of users across various ABC digital properties. Improve engineering productivity across Android codebases by shortening build, release and observability loops. In collaboration with colleagues contribute to the delivery of high-quality product development within prescribed timeframes and budget constraints and ensure efficient and effective use of resources. Work in close collaboration with the iOS Framework engineers to keep the two platforms moving in step. Maintain clear technical documentation so that any ABC mobile engineer can adopt, extend or contribute to the foundations you build. Maintain an ongoing level of awareness of best industry practices for mobile development and convey this information to other teammates on a regular basis. Collaborate and contribute to the planning of major product features and schedule and coordinate work in your area of responsibility. Qualifications Strong demonstrated experience developing native Android applications, preferably in Kotlin, using core technologies from the modern Android ecosystem. Experience designing APIs and libraries intended for other engineers to consume; explicit contracts, sensible defaults, good extension points. Comfort with Android modularisation, and the build/CI toolchain, including diagnosing build failures and shortening feedback loops. Strong demonstrated knowledge of modern frameworks and build tools, automated/unit testing, and version control branching, merging and versioning strategies. Great interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster an open and collaborative approach both within the team and across product teams you support. Keen attention to detail and organisational skills with the proven ability to plan and prioritise projects and tasks effectively. Key technologies you will work with: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Hilt, Gradle, GitLab CI, OpenTelemetry and Datadog.
