Design Engineer (City of Fairfield)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer extraordinaire, who enjoys a challenge, and has an innate ability to visualise and articulate a concept and then translate an idea into a design. You’re passionate about utilising your skills and experience to deliver exceptional tooling concepts and plastic injection mould designs for mass or batch production that exceeds our customer's expectations. As the Design Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Complex tooling design.
- Performing DFM (Design for Manufacture) from approved design brief.
- Use CAD software ‘Powershape’ to refine designs.
- Creating 2D & 3D models and drawings of products.
- Designing tools for injection moulding.
- Detailing and documenting selected designs for production.
- Creating 3D models for EDM.
- Researching product enhancements & tooling designs.
- Conduct design reviews with customers on conference calls and on-site. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Certified Toolmaker or equivalent
- 3
- 8 years hands‑on Design experience in Plastic Injection Moulding
- Proven experience using Powershape
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications
- Proficiency in Coordinate Measuring Machine (desirable)
- Working knowledge of tool functionality
- Strong knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles
- Working knowledge of hardware, tools, and machines
- Project Management skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good troubleshooting skills
- Excellent drawing/mechanical drafting & modelling
