Description
Build the platform. Build the team. Build the bet. If you want a large team, a clear career ladder, and well-defined role boundaries, this isn't it. If you want to ship real features to real users from week one, build with AI as a real part of the workflow, and grow with a company going somewhere -read on. Ripltec is a Sydney-based SaaS company building the platform infrastructure that professional bodies use to recognise and credential expertise. Our clients are leading professional associations across Australia and the UK, with Europe and Asia on the horizon. No corporate ladder, no layered management, no narrow remits. Every line of code reaches real users, and the gap between deciding and shipping is measured in days. This is the anchor technology hire we'll build the team around. The base salary is competitive, but the real story is the startup one – a stake in what you’re helping build, the chance to invest in its success, and the runway to grow into a broader leadership role as the company scales. If you've spent years in larger organisations and you're ready to make the bet, this is the kind of role that's hard to find later. The role You'll set technical direction, mentor the team, and own end-to-end architecture, quality, and delivery. This is a product engineering role at heart
- close to the customer, opinionated about what gets built and why, writing code, and shipping small working increments that earn their keep. It's also a role that flexes. Startup priorities shift
- some weeks are architecture, some are heads-down on a feature, some are joining a customer call to help leadership think through a commitment. You're full-stack first, but you'll own technology end-to-end, which means knowing where the gaps are and bringing in the right help as needed. Honest about what you know and don't know is a feature here, not a bug. How we work with AI AI-assisted engineering is core to how we build
- tools such as Claude paired with a disciplined spec-to-production pipeline. We want engineers who get the most from these tools: where they multiply output, where they introduce risk, and where judgement overrides them. You'll set the bar for how the team uses AI and apply the guardrails that keep its output safe to ship. If you think AI is a fad, this isn't your place. The stack must have .NET 10 / C# 14 / ASP.NET Core
- Next.js (App Router)
- React + TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS
- PostgreSQL
- Azure Container Apps
- GitHub Actions Nice to have
- Next.js App Router, TanStack Query, Entity Framework Core
- Docker, GitHub Actions, Azure
- Clean Architecture or DDD in production
- WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility knowledge What you'll own
- Technical direction across the full stack, and the architecture and AI decisions that come with it
- Product engineering judgement
- shaping what gets built, not just how
- End-to-end technology leadership, including knowing where to bring in data, cyber, or other specialists
- Code quality, testing discipline, and review standards
- The spec-to-production pipeline, including how we evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and architectural fit
- Mentorship of a small team and the cultural tone of how engineering works together with business
- Specs, ADRs, and the written record of why we built things the way we did What we need from you
- 5+ years professional development, with meaningful time across backend and frontend
- A product engineering mindset
- customer outcomes, thin slices, opinions on the spec not just the code. You will need to be familiar or become familiar quickly with our business context: education technology.
- Full-stack confidence with the self-awareness to recognise gaps in adjacent areas and bring in support when needed
- Strong C# fundamentals (eg generics, async/await, LINQ, pattern matching) on real ASP.NET Core systems
- React + TypeScript depth (hooks, composition, typed interfaces), and an opinion on what good looks like
- SQL you can actually write
- joins, CTEs, subqueries, query plans when needed
- Flexibility
- comfortable shifting between architecture, hands-on coding, prioritisation changes, customer conversations, and whatever the week demands
- Track record of leading, mentoring, or setting technical direction for other engineers
- Transparent written communication
- specs, ADRs, and reviews that others learn from
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency, no visa or employment sponsorship will be considered
- Sydney-based, working close to full-time from our CBD office to build the team and work closely with leadership Values and how we work We operate as an integrated business-technology team. Engineering isn't a delivery function on the other side of a wall. Technical decisions are made in the open with the rest of the team, and commercial decisions are made with engineering in the room. That only works with the right behaviours:
- Takes ownership without being asked; identifies gaps and fills them
- Honest about what they know and what they don't
- Communicates technical decisions clearly
- in writing, in conversation, and to non-technical colleagues
- Cares about the craft
- naming, commit messages, the details that compound
- Leads by example, not by title; understands team output beats individual credit
- Brings energy, listens well, and wants to grow with the company
- Serious about mentoring and growing organisational capabilities We'll back a values-aligned candidate with slightly thinner technical skills over a technically brilliant one who doesn't fit. How to apply Applications must include answers to all three questions below in your cover letter or application message. Applications without answers will not be reviewed. 1. Q1. GitHub or public project link, plus 2–3 sentences on what you'd do differently rebuilding it today. 2. Q2. Self-rate 1–5 on C#/.NET and on React/Next.js/TypeScript, and name one concept in each you'd want to strengthen. 3. Q3. Your experience with AI-assisted coding (Claude Code or equivalent), or how you'd approach learning to work this way. Confirm in your application: (a) Australian citizen or permanent resident, (b) able to work from our Sydney CBD office close to full-time. Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3rfgnh
