About Scope
Scope’s purpose is to create meaningful opportunities for people with disability to belong and thrive. We support people with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities to achieve their goals. Scope is a registered provider under the NDIS and delivers a range of services including supported independent living, short term accommodation (respite), social connections, lifestyle options, therapy and employment services in over 420 service locations across Victoria and NSW.
About your role:
"Communication access occurs when people are respectful and responsive to individuals with communication difficulties, and when strategies and resources are used to support successful communication.” (Johnson, West, Solarsh, Wyllie & Morey, 2013, p.7).
Our purpose at Scope's Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC) is to create more inclusive and accessible communities for people who experience a range of communication difficulties.
Scope currently has two fantastic opportunities (full time or part time) available for accessible information writers to translate complex written information into Easy English and plain language, in-line with our best-practice standards.
Your key focus:
Complete customer work from onboarding, service delivery, billing, and quality assurance.
Conduct consumer testing sessions with people with a lived experience of low literacy and provide support as required.
Provide information, advice, and consultancy to internal and external customers.
Direct appropriate image selection for Easy English documents.
What we look for:
You will be a robust advocate for the rights of people with low literacy, including people with intellectual disability.
Tertiary qualifications in writing, editing or another relevant communications field.
Demonstrated experience in the production of quality communications that meet the needs of identified audiences.
Excellent collaboration, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with management and staff.
