Description
Makeup Artists and/or Hair Stylists – Educators / Trainers – Course-by-Course Contractors About the Role Are you a talented, working Industry Hair and/or Makeup Artist with a passion for giving back and shaping the next generation of talent? We are a modern, glamorous, and high-end private academy based in Melbourne. Our studio environment features a sleek, Black & Glam aesthetic. It is beautiful, polished, and premium, yet entirely welcoming, positive, and supportive. We do not care about RTO or institutional training qualifications, and you do not need previous teaching experience. We care about current industry skills, incredible energy, and cultural alignment. We are currently looking for passionate, current industry professionals to join our talent pool as casual educators on a flexible, course-by-course contract basis. We are open to Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists, or Dual-Talent Artists who can do both hair styling and bridal/glam makeup artistry. Because our intakes are demand-driven, we are interviewing now to lock in and onboard our next round of mentors for courses commencing over the next 2 to 3 months. How the Structure Works Our education model is highly organized and built around complete course blocks, giving you great freelance flexibility to work in your business while maintaining calendar stability:
- Two-Round Paid Training Phase: To ensure you feel completely confident, you will go through a thorough, two-course paid training phase (at a slightly adjusted training rate) where you shadow and assist a lead mentor to learn our exact curriculum and flow before leading a class independently.
- Course-by-Course Bookings: Once trained, work is offered on a full course basis (e.g., Makeup courses run 1 day a week for 10 weeks; Hair modules run 1 day a week for 8 weeks).
- Ultimate Flexibility: When a new course is scheduled, we offer the block dates to you first. If you have existing bridal or commercial client bookings or any other commitments and need to miss a specific day within that block, that is completely fine, we just plan it out together in advance! You do not have to take on every course that is offered, but when you agree to the course dates, it is strictly expected that you follow through.
- Invoicing: This is a professional contracting role. You will simply invoice the Academy for each day you have worked at the conclusion of each course block. Day-to-Day Responsibilities As a core member of our tight-knit team, your role goes beyond just delivering the curriculum. On your class days, you will also take ownership of the studio environment, including:
- Social Media Content: Capturing dynamic in-class moments and student content, and posting at least 1 story per class day tagging us on social media.
- Studio Operations: Managing the POS system and handling on-the-day student payments.
- General Housekeeping: Contributing to light, general housekeeping to ensure our beautiful studio space remains pristine, glamorous, and welcoming for every student. A Long-Term Partnership Our intensive, paid on-boarding and training phase is a significant investment of our time, curriculum IP, and resources into your growth as an educator. Because of this, we are looking for long-term partners. This role is ideally suited for an established artist looking for a reliable, premium teaching anchor to add to their annual calendar year after year, not someone looking for a short-term or temporary stop-gap. This role is flexible to fit into your current beauty business, second job, or other commitments. Who You Are (Our Cultural Fit) Our culture and brand image are everything to us. To fit into our tight-knit team, you must bring the following to the studio:
- 5 Years Industry Experience: You do not need prior teaching experience, as we provide complete training on how we prefer our classes to be taught. However, you must have at least 5 years of active experience working as a freelance makeup artist and/or hair stylist. Your real-world industry experience and insights will provide a key educational value point for our students.
- The "Black & Glam" Aesthetic: As the face of a luxury academy, your personal presentation and style must reflect our modern, glamorous, and high-end brand aesthetic.
- High Energy & Positivity: You radiate a warm, enthusiastic vibe that instantly makes students feel excited to learn.
- Patient, Empathetic & Supportive: You genuinely love helping others grow, meeting students where they are at, and celebrating their wins.
- Ego-Free & Open to Learning: While we value and welcome your incredible industry feedback and input into the classroom, you are also happy to follow a structured, proven curriculum and adapt to the Academy’s signature techniques. We love that each one of our teachers brings their own signature flair and style into the classroom, however the core of what is taught must follow the academy curriculum.
- An Independent Team Player: You can confidently command a room and work independently, but you also love collaborating with assistant teachers and supporting the wider Academy vision. This role is primarily for a lead teacher, however you may also be offered an assistant role from time to time, where you are there to support larger classrooms and another lead teacher.
- Industry Current: You are a working professional who lives and breathes the current beauty and bridal hair and/makeup industry. What We Offer
- A premium, modern, and beautifully equipped studio space to work in.
- Premium Daily Contract Rates: $300 per day (once leading a course solo) for a short, highly manageable 6.5-hour day.
- Fully Paid Breaks: Your 45-to-60-minute lunch break is fully paid and included in your day rate (meaning your actual face-to-face teaching time is only about 5-5.5 hours!).
- A Dedicated 2-Course Training Phase: A fully paid, two-part training phase designed to ensure you feel completely supported before going solo. Phase 1: You are observing a full course block from start to finish and learning how training is delivered. Phase 2: You are leading your first group and course block under the guidance and supervision of an existing lead trainer.
- The rewarding chance to mentor fresh talent without sacrificing your weekend salon or bridal freelancing business.
- A highly supportive management team that treats our contractors like true partners. We are highly supportive of other Artists in the industry. To Apply If you have the vibe, the talent, the glamorous aesthetic, and the heart for mentoring, we want to hear from you! Please submit your resume along with a cover letter. As personal style, presentation, and branding are essential to this role, please ensure you include a link to your active Instagram portfolio or website so we can see your style, presence, and work.
