- the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to undertake long‑term, world‑leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S. This is a once in a lifetime prospect to further your career and professional capabilities through collaborations and upskilling with world‑leading industry partners. Placements are available in October 2026 and will be approximately 26 months in duration. Responsibilities As an Electrical Engineer your responsibilities include:
- Provide engineering support and technical direction for shipboard electrical systems, including power generation/distribution, control systems, communications, and auxiliary systems
- Conduct engineering analysis, investigations, and problem‑solving for maintenance, repair, and modernization projects
- Develop and review engineering documentation such as drawings, reports, specifications, and technical recommendations
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during installation, testing, and operational phases, often making real‑time decisions
- Support risk assessments and provide technical guidance to production and maintenance teams
- Estimate labour, materials, and resources required for engineering tasks and projects
- Ensure engineering work complies with technical standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements Eligibility Criteria The successful applicant must possess:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years' experience in similar role
- Experience within the defence industry (desirable) During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and U.S. Navy processes and procedures. At the completion of your deployment, you willreturn to Western Australia (WA)to carry out the planning, management, and in‑water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling. Repatriation to WA is non‑negotiable, so please consider this when applying. Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
