Description
The School Samson Primary School (PS) offers a holistic development environment for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on unity, respect, safety, inclusion and collaborative learning. The school provides a Specialized Learning Program (SLP) for children with Autism, integrating them into mainstream classes while offering targeted support in academic engagement, organisational skills, social cognition, peer relationships and emotional regulation. The Role The SLP provides individualized, neurodiversity-affirming support designed to engage students, enhance academic achievement and foster adaptive skills. As a classroom teacher in an SLP, you will implement key elements:
- Tailored Plans: develop and implement individualized plans focusing on organisational skills, social cognition, positive peer relationships and emotional self‑regulation.
- Dedicated Homerooms: lead an SLP homeroom using evidence‑based approaches with education assistants.
- Neurodiversity‑Affirming Strategies: apply strategies aligned with the National Guideline for supporting autistic children and families.
- Whole‑School Support: collaborate with the wider school community to ensure consistent support across settings. You will also collaborate with the SLP Program Coordinator to:
- Engage in Professional Learning and ongoing career development.
- Contribute to Strategic Planning, driving whole‑school approaches to inclusivity. Responsibilities and Qualifications To be suitable:
- Apply evidence‑based pedagogy for improving student outcomes relevant to the WA curriculum.
- Commit to relevant training, positive behaviour support and teaching practices.
- Monitor, review and report on student performance via individualized learning plans and data systems.
- Deploy resources efficiently and manage education assistants for program fidelity.
- Demonstrate high‑level interpersonal skills in communicating with colleagues, parents and the school community.
