The Cross St Kilda is a vibrant Scottish-inspired pub and restaurant located in the heart of St Kilda, blending traditional British and Irish influences with modern Australian pub dining. Known for its lively atmosphere, live entertainment, and hearty, quality dishes, it serves as a popular meeting spot for locals and visitors alike. We are looking for a passionate Chef who thrives and wants to be part of a team that takes pride in delivering exceptional food every service. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. The Cross operates seven days a week, offering lunch, dinner, and late-night service in a fast-paced, community-focused environment. Key Responsibilities
· Support the Executive Chef in maintaining high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.
· Collaborate on menu planning and innovation, contributing ideas for recent dishes and seasonal changes.
· Take responsibility for the preparation, cooking, and plating of meals across service periods.
· Uphold all food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organised, and compliant at all times.
· Mentor and assist kitchen team members by sharing skills, demonstrating techniques, and encouraging ongoing development.
· Assist with cost control by helping manage stock levels, ordering, and kitchen budgets.
· Proactively look for ways to enhance kitchen performance, streamline processes, and improve overall efficiency. Required Skills and Experience
- Relevant Trade Qualification: Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher (e.g., Diploma of Hospitality Management) or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a chef role within a busy hospitality environment.
· Strong technical cooking skills and creativity in developing quality dishes.
· Knowledge of contemporary cooking techniques, food presentation, and kitchen operations.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure and during peak service periods.
· Strong time management and organisational skills.
· Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
