About WSP’s Power&Energy Team WSP’s Power&Energy team partners with clients to solve complex technical challenges in the energy transition. Our work spans renewables, battery energy storage systems (BESS)&alternative energy storage technologies, modern thermal generation, and transmission and distribution—delivering efficient, reliable, and resilient outcomes across Australia and beyond.

Working in WSP’s Power&Energy team that specialises in power and energy projects (steam cycle, gas, diesel, waste to energy, geothermal, and waste heat recovery), hydropower, new energy (such as hydrogen), and energy storage (compressed air, thermal storage) and hybrid renewable solutions.

You’ll play a key role in the design and delivery of power generation projects in our Generation and New Energy team. Your day to day will include working across thermal and renewable power generation projects, applying your technical expertise to future-focused solutions.

This role can be based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney, with established Energy teams across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and other locations.

What You’ll Do

Work within a dedicated national team to undertake a broad range of power generation engineering&power advisory projects.

Undertake and own business development activities and outcomes with the support of the broader team.

Think laterally and pursue opportunities independently and proactively with a consultant’s mindset.

Grow the company’s capability to deliver projects in innovative generation technologies.

Develop new, maintain and nurture client relationships.

Exhibit and promote a positive health, safety, environment and quality culture.

Lead and deliver technical outcomes for generation projects new and currently under development.

Provide technical and commercial (CAPEX&OPEX development) advisory for new build, refurbishment, operation and asset management for power generation facilities.

Ensure engineering outcomes meet client needs, regulatory requirements, quality and purpose within allocated project budgets.

Monitor and manage multi-disciplinary projects, applying business systems and processes.

Inspect, supervise and report site-based activities during construction and commissioning.

Perform computer modelling (predominantly thermodynamic), independent calculation, layout development, redline drafting and desk‑top reviews.

About You

Proven experience in thermal power generation (typically 7–15 years, with a minimum of 5 years required).

Experience in a consultancy or within a power generation environment preferred.

Bachelor’s level degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Chartered engineering status and/or state‑based registration qualification (RPEQ, RPEV) preferred.

Experience managing multiple engineering projects of varying complexity and size.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work virtually and face‑to‑face within a team environment.

Exhibits a high degree of accountability and ownership.

Ability to manage self and undertake multiple tasks concurrently.

Established Australian networks within the power generation industry.

Ability to lead and deliver projects while liaising with internal teams and clients.

Ability to lead and develop strategic outcomes.

Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to this field.

Open to and act on feedback promptly.

Flexibility to meet project and client outcomes.

Comfortable managing competing priorities and working under pressure.

Strong understanding of power generation plant design, operation and infrastructure; gas turbine project experience extremely beneficial.
