About The Role PEER is seeking a dynamic and motivated Project Manager – Women in Trades to lead the implementation of initiatives that support women entering trade-based careers through pre-vocational training pathways at PEER. The Big Sister: Advanced Mentoring Project The Big Sister project is the first project the successful candidate will lead within PEER. This project involves targeted awareness events, promotion of pre-vocational courses for women into electrical and clean energy-related trades, and mentoring new apprentices. This is a hands‑on role that blends project management, community engagement, industry collaboration, and direct participant support. You will work closely with accredited training provider PEER, supporting women into vocational training, apprenticeships, and sustainable trade careers. A Day in the Life of This Role No two days are the same. Your work may include:
- Delivering school presentations, career talks, and vocational counselling sessions
- Coordinating and attending try‑a‑trade events and industry engagement activities
- Planning and delivering community and industry events
- Participating in internal project meetings and stakeholder engagement
- Supporting marketing, communications, and promotion of Women in Trades programmes
- Mentoring female electrical apprentices
- Recruiting women into pre‑apprenticeship and vocational training programmes
- Managing project reporting, compliance, and data tracking
- Building and maintaining relationships with schools, community organisations, and industry partners About The Big Sister Program The Big Sister: Advanced Mentoring Program promotes pre‑apprenticeship pathways into electrical and clean energy trades with PEER as the registered training organisation partner in South Australia. The program provides:
- Accredited Cert II Electrotechnology training via PEER
- Structured mentoring and apprenticeship support
- Confidence‑building and employability development
- Exposure to electrical and clean energy career pathways
- Transition support into electrical apprenticeships While the Project Manager – Women in Trades role initially leads The Big Sister Program within PEER, it will expand over time to include additional Women in Trades or other important industry initiatives, strengthening pathways into a broader range of trade careers and opportunities. Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead end‑to‑end delivery of Women in Trades programmes and initiatives
- Oversee planning, delivery, and evaluation of programme activities
- Ensure compliance with funding, reporting, and governance requirements Stakeholder & Industry Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, community organisations, and industry partners
- Represent PEER at events, expos, and engagement activities Participant Engagement & Support
- Support recruitment into pre‑apprenticeship and vocational training pathways
- Mentor and support women entering trade courses and careers
- Contribute to improved retention and apprenticeship transition outcomes Program Development & Promotion
- Contribute to marketing, communications, and promotional activity
- Support growth and visibility of Women in Trades initiatives
- Identify opportunities for programme improvement and expansion Reporting & Compliance
- Maintain accurate participant data and records
- Prepare project reporting and funding deliverables
- Ensure compliance with organisational and funding requirements Selection Criteria Essential
- Trades qualification or demonstrated trade experience (including on‑site trade experience)
- Solid understanding of trade environments, workplace safety, and compliance requirements
- Experience or knowledge in vocational training, apprenticeships or workforce development environments
- Ability to confidently engage with industry, schools, and community stakeholders Desirable
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or willingness to obtain
- Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supporting learners in a professional or educational capacity
- Willingness and ability to travel regionally as required Personal Attributes
- A confident and engaging communicator
- A strong public speaker who connects well with diverse audiences
- Skilled in building and maintaining relationships across industry and community
- Passionate about trade careers, particularly increasing participation of women (and inclusive of all cohorts)
