United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) is an Open Cut coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. UWJV 50:50 joint venture between United Collieries (Glencore and MEU) and Wambo Coal (Peabody). We commenced operation in 2020 and we are forecast to produce up to 10 million tonnes per annum of saleable thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal until 2042.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented **Environment & Community Officer**to join our team at the United Wambo Operation. Reporting to the Environment & Community Manager, this role supports the delivery of environmental and community programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental approvals, and site-specific obligations.
This position is suited to a proactive and adaptable individual with strong communication skills and a practical approach to environmental and community responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders, including regulators and community representatives, while developing your technical skills and gaining exposure to best-practice environmental management.
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- A tertiary qualification in environmental science or engineering;
- Relevant experience in a similar role within the mining or other heavy industry;
- Robust systems focus and strategic approach to delivering positive outcomes;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills;
- Strong analysing, auditing and report writing skills;
- Project and contractor management skills, and experience in community relations and;
- Exposure to ArcGIS highly desirable.
This role requires an individual prepared to challenge the norm, drive continuous improvement and who can demonstrate experience in implementing best practice using a fully involved and hands on approach.
