Our client, H Randhawa & P Randhawa trading as Far North Bananas, a leading banana farming enterprise based in Innisfail, QLD, is seeking a full time Irrigationist to manage and optimise irrigation operations across their farms (105 acres at Gangemi Rd and 125 acres at Hill End Rd). This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of farm water management, including irrigation scheduling, system monitoring, maintenance and repair of irrigation infrastructure, fertigation activities, water-use efficiency planning, and ensuring consistent moisture levels to support healthy crop growth. The role involves conducting regular inspections of irrigation lines, pumps, valves, and filtration systems; identifying and resolving faults; implementing water-saving strategies; and ensuring compliance with environmental and workplace health and safety requirements. The Irrigationist will work closely with farm management and agronomy teams to maintain optimal soil moisture, support crop performance, and contribute to the farm’s production targets, while also coordinating with field staff and operating relevant farm machinery and equipment as required. Responsibilities: -determining hydraulic parameters, implementing irrigation programs, scheduling irrigations, managing pumping systems, applying designs, and supervising installation and maintenance. Duties:
- Determine hydraulic parameters for banana-specific irrigation systems, ensuring adequate water pressure, flow rates, and distribution uniformity across large-scale plantation blocks.
- Implement irrigation programs tailored to banana crop cycles, soil moisture requirements, seasonal rainfall patterns, and farm production schedules.
- Schedule irrigations to maintain optimal soil moisture levels for plant growth, fruit development, and disease prevention, using field observations, moisture monitoring tools, and agronomy input.
- Select, operate, and manage pumping systems suitable for high-volume irrigation demands, including electric and diesel pumps, fertigation pumps, and water-transfer systems across farm sites.
- Interpret and apply irrigation designs for banana plantations, including layout of mainlines, sub-mains, drip or micro-spray systems, valve placement, and filtration units.
- Supervise installation of irrigation infrastructure, ensuring correct placement of pipes, sprinklers, drip lines, valves, and pump systems in accordance with farm plans and WHS requirements.
- Supervise ongoing irrigation maintenance, including leak detection, flushing lines, repairing blockages, replacing damaged components, monitoring pump performance, and ensuring uninterrupted water delivery to all banana blocks. Qualification:
