The Salvation Army National Family Violence Stream offers specialist programs to families and individuals who are experiencing and recovering from family violence, modern slavery and forced marriage. Our services focus on prevention, restoration and healing using evidence-based theories and frameworks. We work towards a community which is secure and free from violence and challenges systemic gendered attitudes.
Our philosophy is that every person deserves dignity, respect and quality of service and we provide crisis accommodation and advice to women and their children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, family violence.
Our purpose is to drive consistent best practice responses to family violence across The Salvation Army.
About the role
At The Salvation Army, we consider gender a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 27 (2) (f) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, and so we ask that only Female applicants apply.
As a Support Worker you will support single women and women and their children who have experienced Family Violence to implement client led case plans, referring complex matters to more senior staff.
This will include:
- Provide clients accessing our crisis accommodation with a welcoming and responsive initial contact.
- Supporting our clients to ensure that urgent and immediate needs are addressed
- Support with risk assessments and ongoing safety management
- Provide information to assist in assessing and addressing client issues, needs and circumstances
- Establish effective relationships with clients that encourage self-determination, participation and support them to meet their goals
- Assist clients to access support services
- Supporting the general needs of a crisis accommodation service
- Assisting Case Managers and clients to progress in their case plans
- Child focused, inclusive practice
There are multiple new roles opening up following internal development opportunities.
Hours include;
A full-time role working Monday to Friday 9AM-5PM (or job share)
additional roles include options for weekend day shifts (9AM-5PM)
and/ or overnight sleep shifts (5PM to 9AM) across evenings and weekends.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with Social, Community, Homecare and Disability Services Award Level 4 plus evening, weekend and night shift allowance (where applicable).
What you will bring
- Cert III Community Studies or equivalent
- Relevant experience in a social service environment
- Trauma and Domestic Violence Informed Practice
- Person Centred, Strength Based approach
- Pool cars are provided
- a relevant driver’s licence is required
- Relevant state Working with Children Check is required
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
