Financial Controller - RTS (City of Sydney)

This role is a key senior member of the head office finance team, providing solid financial controllership and leadership. Downer has more than 100 years' rail experience providing end-to-end, innovative transport solutions. We are a leading provider of rollingstock asset management services, with expertise in delivering whole-of-life asset management support to our customers. We offer turnkey solutions for complex projects spanning every project phase from design and manufacture to through-life support, condition monitoring and data analytics, fleet maintenance, operations and comprehensive overhaul of assets, and decommissioning. We are seeking a Financial Controller to join our Rail & Transit Systems (RTS) Head Office Team. Reporting directly to the General Manager, Finance, this role is a key senior member of the head office finance team, providing strong financial controllership and leadership. Working closely alongside RTS leadership, this position will lead the production of statutory financial and management accounting reporting for the business unit. This highly visible role offers the opportunity to provide strong financial governance stewardship, improve financial frameworks, and support our business to deliver sustainable projects. Responsibilities
- Lead the RTS financial closure and reporting process, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and integrity of our financial results.
- Support the coordination of internal and external audit requirements, ensuring timely submission and completion of audits.
- Establish and maintain internal controls and financial governance to proactively identify financial risks and ensure compliance with Downer standards.
- Serve as the RTS subject matter expert for all financial and tax accounting queries.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities to improve ways of working.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team and foster deep relationships with other Downer Group functions. This is a full-time, permanent role based on site in our North Ryde office. About You
- 8+ years demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting at a senior level in a major organization.
- Tertiary qualification in Finance or Accounting or equivalent business experience.
- Membership with a recognised Australian accounting body (CPA/CAANZ).
- Advanced proficiency in financial reporting, modelling, and analysis.
- Strong technical accounting (AASB/IFRS) and management reporting knowledge.
- Advanced financial reporting and analysis skills, including utilisation of financial systems (JDEdwards/OneStream).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for executive-level communication. What we offer
