Investment Manager - Ai - Early Stage (Sydney)

About This Role Investment Manager to source and win AI‐native companies built by ANZ founders, leading deals end‐to‐end, contributing to Airtree's AI tooling, and supporting portfolio founders. Location: Sydney, Australia. This role will be based at Airtree's Sydney headquarters. Responsibilities Source and win AI investments across ANZ and select global markets by building relationships with researchers, builders, operators, and open‐source contributors. Build a sourcing engine for AI‐native companies and act as the first point of contact for founders building AI. Run investment‐committee‐quality diligence assessing technical defensibility, data moat, competitive landscape, and founding teams. Write rigorous investment memos on technology, risks, and investment thesis. Contribute to Airtree's internal AI tools for sourcing signals, company research, meeting preparation, and portfolio monitoring. Serve as a sounding board for portfolio companies on AI adoption, integration, and strategy. Connect founders to talent, customers, co‐investors, and technical advisors. Build and maintain an AI community network and stay current on research, papers, and emerging technologies. Demonstrate solid written communication and ability to build trust with both technically and commercially focused stakeholders. Qualifications Commercial experience or instincts; prior investor role not required. High agency, relationship builder, and ability to act independently. Experience shipping products, tools, or prototypes using AI (or equivalent research background). Deep network in the ANZ or global AI community or the capacity to build one quickly. Strong written communication, with the ability to write compelling investment memos. Backgrounds in VC, startup operations, or technical fields such as computer science, engineering, maths, or self‐taught equivalents. Experience evaluating deep‐tech or frontier technology companies is a plus. Existing public work (writing, open‐source contributions, talks, or products) is desirable.
