Senior Mechatronics Engineer, Controls & Electronics Sydney | Full time | Hybrid | $110k to $150k + super + meaningful equity Relocation and visa support available for the right person The Mission What happens when semiconductor tooling needs to get smarter, faster and more repeatable? You build the controls layer properly. This role sits across electronics, controls, automation software and the physical machine. Not pure software. Not generic industrial controls. Real equipment, real sensors, real actuators, real commissioning pain. You’ll help build advanced manufacturing tools for next-generation semiconductor packaging, where precision, uptime and integration matter from day one. What You’ll Work On
• Design and implement control systems for advanced manufacturing equipment
• Specify sensors, actuators, motors, drives, controllers and electrical components
• Develop embedded software, firmware and PLC programs for machine automation
• Work across motion control, servo drives, actuators and machine-level electronics
• Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts
• Commission, test and debug complex electromechanical systems
• Troubleshoot hardware, software and integration issues across the full machine
• Develop machine safety systems and support relevant safety standards
• Help establish controls, electronics and automation standards for a scaling team
• Work closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers to deliver integrated tools What Matters Here
• 7+ years in mechatronics, controls engineering, automation or similar
• Robust PLC programming and motion control experience
• Embedded C/C++ or Python experience
• Familiarity with protocols like EtherCAT, Modbus or OPC-UA
• Electrical design experience across schematics, panels and wiring diagrams
• Solid mechanical fluency, enough to integrate across the actual machine
• Experience commissioning complex electromechanical equipment
• Semiconductor equipment, precision manufacturing, robotics or industrial automation experience
• Startup appetite without startup chaos tolerance being mistaken for lack of standards Nice to Have
• MATLAB or Simulink
• ISO 13849 or IEC 62443 exposure
• Semiconductor tooling or fab equipment experience
• Experience building automation standards from scratch Why This Role Is Different This is not controls work in a plant that already knows what it is.
