Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, thePower Systems Engineer role sits at the intersection of power systems engineering and project development, acting as the technical authority guiding grid connection strategy and execution. You will support projects from early-stage site selection through to energization by navigating the Australian grid connection process for large loads, managing technical studies, and interfacing with network service providers, consultants, and internal stakeholders. - Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering(Power Systems focus preferred).
- 3-7 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, ideally in large load/grid connections, Transmission planning or utility / developer / consultancy environments
- Robust understanding of power system studies load flow, short circuit, and stability analysis
- Experience with AEMO connection processes and requirements for large loads
- Experience interfacing with TNSPs/DNSPs (e.g., TransGrid, Powerlink,ElectraNet,AusNet, etc.)
- Familiarity with tools such as PSS®E, PSCAD,PowerFactory, or equivalent
- Experience working with or interpreting grid codes, connection standards, or regulatory frameworks
- Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Job responsibilities
- Provide technicalsupport to Project Development teams on grid connection strategy, risks, and timelines
- Lead and coordinate the end-to-end connection process for large load connections with Australian network service providers (TNSPs/DNSPs) , NER and AEMO
- Interpret and advise on connection requirements, performance standards, and grid code obligations applicable to large loads
- Support site screening and capacity assessments based on network constraints, system strength, and available infrastructure
- Review, scope, and guide power system studies, including Load flow (steady state), Short circuit / fault level, Transient and dynamic stabilityand EMT studies , Voltage Ride-Through (VRT), Fault Ride Through (FRT) (as required)
- Interface with external consultants to ensure study quality, consistency, and alignment with project needs
- Interpret study results toidentifyrisks, constraints, and mitigation measures (e.g., system strength, harmonic performance, voltage stability, protection requirements)
- Evaluate and support integration of grid support technologies and other solutionsrequiredto meet network performance and stability requirements
- Act as a technical interface with AEMO, TNSPs/DNSPs, and regulatory bodies
- Translate complex technical outcomes into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders
- Identifyopportunities to de-risk and accelerate connection timelines
- Stay current with evolving AEMO requirements, network standards, and industry practices
