Kennedys is seeking an Associate to join our Sydney office, working across two of our leading Insurance practices under Partners Penny Taylor and Mairead Cusack.
This is a genuinely broad role offering exposure to high-quality, complex matters across financial lines, construction and commodities. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to develop across multiple specialist practice areas within a globally connected firm.
The Partners
Penny Taylor has deep experience specialising in financial lines insurance litigation, including professional indemnity (construction), Directors & Officers and trade credit.
Mairead Cusack specialises in property and construction insurance, advising insurers across professional indemnity, contractors all risk, delay in start-up, and industrial special risks.
The Work
You will work across a broad mix of high-quality matters, including:
- Professional indemnity (construction industry focus)
- Directors & Officers defence and coverage
- Trade credit insurance claims
- Multi-party litigation in Supreme and Federal Court jurisdictions
- Advice for domestic and London market insurers
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management and progression of insurance litigation matters
- Assisting on complex commodities and trade disputes from inception to resolution
- Drafting advice, pleadings and correspondence to a high standard
- Working collaboratively across practice groups and offices
About You
- 2-4 years PQE* in insurance litigation or commercial disputes from a reputable private practice team
- Defendant-side experience preferred
- Solid litigation and court skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Organised, proactive and capable of managing competing priorities
- Interest in developing a long-term career in specialist insurance practice
- Where a level of experience is indicated, this is a guideline only and represents the amount of time we would usually expect a candidate to accumulate the requisite level of experience. This does not preclude applications from candidates with more or less experience.
