This role presents a compelling opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take ownership of a broad remit, work closely with senior leadership, and contribute to a significant period in the company’s development. Summary of Role Brazilian Rare Earths Limited (BRE) is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant on a full-time basis, to support the BRE and related companies as the Group scales its operations and progresses its ASX-listed activities. This role supports the day-to-day finance and administration function for BRE’s Group, with a particular focus on financial reporting, bookkeeping in Xero, accounts payable, and tax compliance. The position is based in Sydney on a hybrid working arrangement and reports to the Group Financial Controller, working closely with the Group CFO and Brazil-based finance team. Principal Accountabilities
- Prepare the financial consolidation for BRE and related entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IFRS.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements, quarterly ASX report and monthly group reporting packages, including intercompany eliminations and reconciliations.
- Liaise with the Brazil-based finance team to obtain and reconcile financial data required for consolidated group reporting.
- Deliver monthly reporting in accordance with IFRS and BRE Group accounting policies.
- Maintain all financial transactions for Australian entities, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in Xero.
- Manage month-end close processes including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and bank reconciliations.
- Maintain all formal finance policies, procedures, and processes, recommending and implementing improvements as required.
- Provide day-to-day oversight of financial systems, databases, and accounting software, including user access and appropriate segregation of duties. Accounts Payable & Treasury
- Maintain the end-to-end accounts payable function including invoice processing, approvals, coding, and payment runs.
- Ensure all financial liabilities are settled on time and in accordance with BRE policies and procedures.
- Maintain and update the Cash Flow & Forecast, reporting variances to management. Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Support compliance with Australian tax obligations including GST, PAYG withholding and corporate income tax, working with external advisors as needed.
- Manage tax lodgements and reporting deadlines, coordinating with external tax advisors as required. Audit & Internal Controls
- Responsible for day-to-day oversight of financial internal controls across the Australian entities.
- Liaise with external auditors on audit requests and supporting documentation, assisting the annual and half year statutory audit processes.
- Ensure annual statutory accounts are finalised in accordance with group and local legal deadlines.
- Maintain and continuously improve the internal control setting, documenting policies and procedures. Planning & Business Support
- Collaborate with the Brazil-based FP&A; team to develop and maintain budgets and long-term strategic financial models.
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial forecasts. Required Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Membership of, or progress toward, a professional accounting body
- Chartered Accountants ANZ, CPA Australia, or IPA Australia.
- Minimum 5+ years of financial management experience, ideally with exposure to multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining financial consolidations, including for listed entities.
- Strong hands‑on proficiency with Xero accounting software.
- Microsoft 365 suite and Large Language Model (LLM) prompting skills.
- Knowledge of IFRS and Australian tax compliance requirements (GST, PAYG, CIT).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present financial information to executive and board audiences.
- Hands‑on, proactive style with high standards of accuracy and thoroughness.
- Ability to plan for the long term while effectively managing short-term operational demands. Highly Regarded (Desirable but not essential attributes)
- Exposure to the mining, resources, or exploration sector is a plus.
- Big 4 or leading mid‑tier public accounting firm training background.
- Portuguese language ability is a bonus given the Group’s Brazilian operations.
- Experience supporting ASX and/or US‑listed entities.
- Exposure to multi‑currency accounting. Candidates must have full working rights in Australia. Annual Remuneration: $135,000 (incl. super) + Bonus based on performance.
