Senior Java Developer (City of Sydney)

Senior Java Developer reporting to Director – Software Engineering, you'll take end-to-end ownership of meaningful technical challenges— from understanding requirements to shipping production-ready solutions. You'll work across backend systems, security, and cross-platform development, contributing to both new builds and the evolution of existing products. You’ll thrive here if you're self-directed, curious, and energized by solving complex problems that have real impact on a global scale. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions that meet or exceed product and client requirements
- Build and maintain security-focused applications of increasing scope and complexity
- Extend and improve existing systems — adding functionality, enhancing performance, and adapting to new environments
- Ensure cross-platform compatibility across all deliverables
- Monitor system improvements post-deployment and iterate based on performance outcomes
- Contribute to architecture, database design, and technical direction as needed Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
- At least 6 years strong, hands‑on Java development skills with a solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases — including design, analysis, and querying
- Proven experience with continuous integration and deployment practices. Demonstrated ability to write secure, testable, and maintainable code
- Experience with cross-platform or multi-workplace development Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience with data warehousing or large-scale data systems
- Background or interest in application security best practices This position will be located in Sydney, Australia and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 2 days a week in-office (may increase to 3 days in the future).
