Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service – Aboriginal Corporation (TAMS-AC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation providing culturally safe, holistic primary health care to community across the New England North West of NSW. We are seeking a motivated, community-focused Social Worker to join our Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team and provide culturally safe, trauma‑informed support to clients and families. What you’ll do
- Provide culturally safe case management, psychosocial assessments, and support planning
- Deliver trauma‑informed counselling within scope and program requirements
- Coordinate care with internal teams and external service providers, including outreach and follow‑up
- Maintain high‑quality clinical notes and accurate record keeping
- Contribute to community wellbeing initiatives and culturally informed healing activities
- Uphold confidentiality, qualified boundaries, cultural safety, and TAMS‑AC policies What we’re looking for
- Bachelor of Social Work (required)
- Accredited and recognised with the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ARCAP) (required)
- Demonstrated capacity to provide trauma‑informed, client‑centred counselling
- Understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) frameworks in Aboriginal health
- Demonstrated ethical and culturally appropriate practice
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective time management and ability to prioritise workload
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) (required)
- Current National Police History Check (required)
- Experience working in an Aboriginal Medical Service and/or primary health care setting
- Knowledge of local services and referral pathways
- Strong computer literacy and clinical record keeping skills
- Current Australian Driver Licence
- Lived experience or deep understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
