Your role: A Gap Year in the Army gives you an exciting taste of life in the ADF with just one year’s commitment. You’ll get paid for meaningful work, receive full Army training, and enjoy memorable experiences – unlike anything you’d encounter in a regular gap year. As a Communications Systems Operator, you’ll be part of a highly trained team where you’ll get a taste of what it’s like to be responsible for delivering vital military communications within fast moving, highly challenging environments. You’ll also learn how to operate the radio and satellite systems that keep the Army connected and communicating effectively. Your 12-month experience is divided into stages. First, you’ll get paid to learn the military and job-specific skills you need for your role. Then you’ll post to a unit to apply your newly learned skills and may have opportunities to travel around Australia to take part in domestic exercises and operations. Plus, you'll be supported by qualified and enthusiastic Army personnel throughout your experience. After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue a career in the Army or you can use your new skills and experiences in future careers outside the ADF. Your duties may include:
- engineering, operating and maintaining a wide range of military radio, satellite and data network services
- handling and protecting sensitive and classified information and material
- communicating vital information across cyber networks in support of frontline troops and their supporting headquarters
- mentoring fellow and junior soldiers on the skills and knowledge required to be an effective soldier and cyber network operator
- maintaining continuous personal and professional growth in developing your core skills and knowledge of your role
- learning to drive and operate a range of military vehicles, ranging from G-Wagons to fully armoured protected mobility vehicles. Benefits of an ADF Gap Year in the Army:
