Description
True engineering innovation transforms the space between blueprint design and physical on-site delivery. This senior mandate invites a hydraulic design authority to spearhead technical strategy, build an internal division, and redefine buildability standards for an industry leader. The Opportunity Hindmarsh Plumbing stands as a premier mechanical and hydraulic plumbing services enterprise within South Australia, routinely trusted with the state's landmark commercial, health, and institutional infrastructure developments. As Adelaide continues to see sophisticated evolution in major build methodologies, the integration of engineering intelligence with physical construction sequencing has never been more vital. The Design Manager position represents a significant strategic milestone for Hindmarsh Plumbing. Operating from the Adelaide head office with targeted interstate collaboration, this role holds a clear mandate to bridge the divide between theoretical consulting design and practical site execution. By championing off‑site prefabrication, digital workflows, and long‑term asset value, you will position the organisation at the absolute forefront of modern construction.
- Shape tender competitiveness, risk mitigation, and value‑engineering outcomes across high‑value infrastructure portfolios.
- Direct the architecture, recruitment, and skilled growth of a newly structured internal hydraulic design and drafting team.
- Drive the adoption of advanced BIM methodologies, complex digital clash detection, and modular construction workflows.
- Secure a high‑visibility leadership title, operating as the definitive technical authority between external consulting firms and senior executive delivery teams. The Role Reporting to senior operations leadership, you will lead the coordination, management, and delivery of all hydraulic service design across the project lifecycle. Your focus will remain on driving constructability and identifying commercial efficiencies without compromising regulatory compliance.
- Lead the end‑to‑end hydraulic design process (including water, sanitary, stormwater, gas, and trade waste systems) from tender through to commissioning.
- Formulate and lead an internal hydraulic design team, establishing structured developmental pathways and technical mentoring for drafting personnel.
- Collaborate closely with Estimating and New Business Managers to identify design efficiencies, smart system selections, and material optimisations (HDPE, PVC, copper).
- Manage directly engaged onshore and offshore engineering resources, ensuring deliverables remain strictly aligned with procurement schedules and site constraints.
- Chair rigorous design coordination meetings to eliminate cross‑disciplinary spatial discrepancies prior to project mobilisation.
- Oversee seamless regulatory approvals with water authorities, local councils, and building compliance bodies, while maintaining comprehensive design risk registers. About You You are a sophisticated design professional who balances deep technical engineering rigour with the leadership maturity required to influence diverse commercial stakeholders.
- Comprehensive background in hydraulic services design management within complex commercial, industrial, or institutional tier‑1 construction environments.
- An authoritative command of AS/NZS 3500 codes, structural installation constraints, and modern installation methodologies.
- A proven history of building capability, mentoring technical personnel, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
- Mastery of BIM environments, digital coordination tools, and formal document control platforms (e.g., Aconex).
- Exceptional presentation skills, with the capability to clearly articulate technical strategies and value‑engineering advantages in high‑stakes pre‑award client briefings.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a readiness to travel interstate, anchored by a deep personal commitment to safety and quality assurance standards. #J-18808-Ljbffr Apply on Kit Job: kitjobau.com/job/3rop9m
