Assistant Accountant (Thomastown)

About the Role We are seeking a reliable and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our small finance team in a well-established crane hire and sales company. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with practical accounting experience who is looking to further develop their skills in a supportive setting. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general ledger reconciliations (bank, supplier statements, intercompany, etc.)
- Process supplier invoices, match to purchase orders, and prepare payments
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Support the preparation of budgets, financial forecasting, and cash flow modelling
- Assist in the development and monitoring of financial budgets and cash flow projections
- Support the preparation of financial reports and management accounts
- Maintain accurate records in our accounting system
- Follow up on outstanding debtors and assist with credit control
- Handle customer and supplier queries related to accounts
- Prepare and issue customer invoices accurately and promptly based on hire/sale contracts and timesheets
- Provide general administrative and accounting support to the finance team About You
- Proven experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general bookkeeping
- Exposure to general ledger reconciliations, month-end processes, budgets, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Proficient in accounting software — experience with Xero, MYOB, and SimPro is highly regarded
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
- Ability to work independently in a small team environment
- Construction or trade industry experience is a bonus but not essential
- Studying towards or holding a formal accounting qualification (e.g. CPA/CA) is highly advantageous What We Offer
